Barry Ashton

Dear All,

It is with great sadness that I must inform you of the passing of Barry.

Barry was a Committee member and the cup custodian for many years, he was also an avid match angler plus a great contributor and friend to the Society. He was often at the pond repairing fences when needed and helping on the work parties.

He would always be at the matches with his friend George Heywood until George passed a few years ago .Barry was a hold out for many years against the pole preferring the waggler and won his fair share of prizes which as one of the lads said on a match he just won “You can still win with rod and line when you know what you’re doing with it” and Barry did.

Barry will be greatly missed by those of us privileged enough to have known him . Our thought’s go out to his Wife Cynthia and his family.

Barry’s funeral is to be held at Grenoside Crematorium North Chapel on Thursday 14th May at 10 a.m. and refreshments afterwards at The Royal British Legion, Ecclesfield Road, Chapeltown, Sheffield  S35 1TE

Fish in peace Barry and say Hi to George for us.

Gate Procedure

Afternoon Gents,

There seems to be some confusion regarding the gate a Bramley Pond, It says in rule 1.9 that all gates must be closed but at Bramley the following rule applies,  When you are in the car park close the gate and put the shot bolt back to the locked position. You can only move one number if you want or give it a good jumble. When you want to get out just look at it from the fence by the bolt and you can see the numbers . Hope this makes sense

This is due to in the past members of the public walking in with their dogs or for a look and damaging poles and tackle etc, This hasn’t been updated in the rules and we can only apologise it was overlooked

 Many thanks

Paul

Braided Line

Due to some carp being caught  recently that have had cuts and damage conducive with braid line being wrapped around their bodies we have decided that to safeguard the stock braid line is no longer allowed in any form at Bramley.

This will be monitored over the coming months and ratified at the AGM.

 Many thanks for your understanding.

Sent on behalf of the committee

 Regards

Update

Due to recent incidents at the pond the committee, after due consultation, have taken the following decision to change bylaw 1.11 under rule 21 of the constitution to         “Members are not allowed on SPS grounds until after an official SPS match is over”

This is to safeguard expensive tackle from being damaged by sightseers. Please note that the gate will be locked from 9am to 4.30pm on match days.

Also please do not throw unwanted bait on the bank at the end of your fishing session. Please throw it far out into the water or take it home. This is to deter vermin on the bank and waterfowl coming into your peg thinking there will be food under your rod.

Remember there is a one rod only fishing rule at Bramley Pond, putting a sleeper rod out is not allowed and ignorance of the rules is no defence.

Read the rules Gentlemen, They’re not there as guidelines.

If barriers are present do not cross them. We had laid some concrete by the overflow and placed barriers in front and behind it only to find someone had moved both barriers and gone through the wet concrete with a barrow or scooter. If you pass barriers the insurance does not cover you.

We are removing the Lilly beds as there are lots of fish being lost in them and for the welfare of the stock we will be replacing them with alternative aquatic plants.

There is also a restocking of Carp, Barbel and Chub coming later in the year.

BAIT CHANGE

It was voted to allow Boilies and Wafters to be used at the pond for a 12 month period with regular water checks to see if there is a detriment to the water quality.

Please use them as a hook bait and don’t feed with them (although at the price they are you’d have to be a Lottery winner to do this)

 Regards

 Paul

Water Quality at Bramley

Just a note to say we have checked the water quality and all have come back perfect.

G/H, K/H, PH,NO2,NO3 are all fine. Disclaimer alert.. this does not guarantee record catches unfortunately so any blanks are the anglers fault :-)

NET DIP Safety Data and Use Method

A Net Dip is being installed at Bramley to comply with our insurance. This is to indemnify us if a fish disease were to infect the water.

We are using a DEFRA approved disinfectant called FAM 30. I have added a webpage address below for the Data Safety sheet please c0py and paste onto your search bar to access the information there will also be a hard copy on the notice board at the pond.

To use the dip please place all nets in the dip if possible leave for 15 minutes before rinsing this will kill all infections although a shorter dip time and 15-30 minutes air drying on the bank is also effective.

Please make sure you rinse the nets before using them. It would also be a good idea to dip your nets before you leave the pond then they are ready for your next visit. I would still say that the best method, if possible, is to air dry your nets and net bags at home after you use them.
